Biblical Support For Veganism- Non-Consumption of Animal Derived Foods

a study by Mark Young (my comments are in parentheses or Note sections)

Genesis 1:29 (According to the Bible, God originally designed man to be vegan. He ate freely of the trees, and herbs and fruit thereof in the Garden of Eden.)

Genesis 3:17 (God made man to eat of the ground.)

Genesis 3:23 (God took man out of the garden to till the ground for food.)

Genesis 9:2-4 (God put fear and dread of man into all other creatures and said every moving creature was meat, even as God gave green herbs, He now gave all things for meat. But what was the context here? Did God give animals for meat due to the fact that the flood had wiped out all vegetation, and herewith granted permission to also eat animals from the ark? If not, why did God wait until after the flood to grant permission for animals to be eaten? Why would God wait centuries after creation, until after the flood and landing of Noah’s Ark, to permit eating animals? Why would He here permit man to eat every moving thing but later prohibit certain animals? Two things at least are clear from the Bible. 1) God originally intended for us to be vegan, 2) In heaven, when we again are at peace with the animals, we no doubt will again be vegan and eat freely of the tree of life. Isaiah 11:6-9, Revelation 2:7)

Isaiah 11: 6-9 No carnivores:... ”They shall neither hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain...”

Daniel Chapter 1 (A vegan diet- pulse - was proven to be superior for body and mind.)

Romans 1:18-25 (The wrath of God is against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. God gives up to the lusts of their own hearts all those who follow their own desires and do not put God, and seeking to please Him, as their first priority. If we follow the traditions of men and societies, including the lusts of appetite, a form of idolatry, by eating animal products, which we now know to be less healthful than plant foods, do we think that God does not notice this dishonoring of our body temples of the Holy Spirit, which belong to Him and are on loan to us? Would God not prefer that we seek to live the most pure and healthful lives possible by following our knowledge of the truth about nutrition?)

NOTE: Only animal products contain cholesterol and have no fiber. Animal products have much greater quantities of fat. We now know from scientific proof that plant sources supply all necessary nutritional requirements of humans. We know that vegans produce the flora in their intestines which supply vitamin B12, the vitamin issue upon which so many doctors base their anti-vegan views. You can take B12 vitamins if it concerns you.

Romans 2:2,5,7-11 (Hard, impenitent hearts...) (God)... will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life, but unto them that are contentious and do not obey the truth, indignation and wrath...but glory, honor and peace unto every man that works good...there is no respect of persons (or traditions) with God.

Romans 7:4-6 (We should recognize and die to the lusts of the flesh (including our appetite to eat unhealthy foods.)

Romans 8:1-13 (We should not walk after the flesh (including fleshly lusts of appetite for unhealthy foods), but after the Spirit.)

Romans 12:1-9 ...present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, unto God, which is your reasonable not conformed to this world (including its decadent dietary habits): but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God...abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good

NOTE: It is well known that animal agriculture is extremely wasteful of resources. Is it not good to eat food which is better for us nutritionally and which makes for better stewardship of the earth?

Romans 14:2 (Had Paul the scientific knowledge of harm from eating animal foods, he most likely would not have considered it “weak” to not eat flesh.)

Romans 14 “ him that esteems anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean...But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not uncharitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of (if your “meat” offends and thereby detracts from fellowship). For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost...Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offense. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, not anything whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” (A vegan diet is the most inoffensive diet, and makes one strong, not weak.)

1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are...What know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and that ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

1 Corinthians 8:13 (We should set an example by not eating anything which might offend another. A vegan diet cannot reasonably give offense to anyone. It is pure, and based on both solid biblical and scientific grounds.)

2 Corinthians 6: “...fastings, purity, knowledge, not touch what is unclean and I will receive you...”

2 Corinthians 7: “...let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God...”

Ephesians 4:13-16 “...speaking the truth in love...” (ie., truth about nutrition and diet)

Ephesians 5:8-14 “...expose unfruitful works of darkness...” (for example., the horrendous practices of corporate animal factories and sensless slaughter of millions of animals, which pollute the air, land and water, and increase disease in humans - See the movie: Food, Inc.)

Philippians 3:18-19 “...god is their belly...”

Philippians 4:8-9

1 Timothy 1:10 “...contrary to sound doctrine...” (ie., scientific documentation of harm from animal derived foods, even if organic- fat, cholesterol)

1 Timothy 1:13 “...I was formerly a...persecutor...I did it ignorantly in unbelief...” (eg., people who disregard message of their eyes and ears in favor of the tongue, or convention)

1 Timothy 6-11 “...pursue”

2 Timothy 2:3-4 “...endure a soldier...” (ie., veganism is often inconvenient, unpopular, against “sacred” traditions, like turkey on Thanksgiving)

2 Timothy2:22-24 “...Flee youthful lusts, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace...avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, correcting those in opposition...that they may know the truth... escape the snare of the devil...” (because the truth shall make you free)

Titus 2:7 “...showing... good works...integrity...sound speech that cannot be condemned...”

Titus 3:3 “...we ourselves were once foolish...deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures...”

Hebrews 5:9 “having been perfected He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him...”

Hebrews 5:12-14 “...milk for babes...solid food for those who by reason of use...discern both good and evil...”

Hebrews 8:10-13 “...laws in...minds and covenant...the first obsolete...”

Hebrews 10:4 “...not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins...”

Hebrews 10:16-18

Hebrews 12:11 “...chastening...painful...yields peaceable fruit of righteousness...”

2 Peter 1:5 “...add to virtue knowledge...”

1 Peter 3:11 “...let him seek peace and pursue it...”

1 Peter 3:17 “...better to suffer for doing good then doing evil..”

Revelation 2:7 “..I will give to him to eat of the tree of paradise of God.”

Revelation 22:2 “...the tree of life...12 manner of fruits...”

Revelation 22:14 “...Blessed are they...that...may have a right to the tree of life...” (In the New Jerusalem, fruit is the only food mentioned, except manna, a breadlike food.)

Alleged Biblical Support For Eating Flesh

Genesis 9:2-3

1 Timothy 4:1-5

Titus 1:15 “ the pure all things are pure...” (perhaps, if necessary at the time, or if no alternative is available to preserve human life)
